What's Your Comfort Number?

It's seems like everyone is looking for extra income these days, Monster.com's 2026 Cost of Living Report found that 93% of workers say that their pay isn't keeping up with today's cost of living.  And 85% said that they've dipped into savings to make ends meet.  In fact, if you asked 10 people, "How much money would allow you to feel financially secure?" you would no doubt get ten different answers.

One person might need an extra $200 a month to stop relying on credit cards, while another might be looking for an extra $1,000 to build up their savings and take a long overdue vacation.  Then there are those you may dream of replaying a full-time income altogether because is hate what they are doing to pay the bills.

There have been recent surveys that consistently show that most people, even those earning good incomes, do not feel financially secure.  With rising prices, housing costs, insurance premiums, child care, and unexpected expenses - this has left millions of families feeling like they are running faster just to keep even.  So, it's no longer unusual for individuals at ALL income levels to drive for a rideshare company, sell products online, freelance after work, or start a small business from home.  The truth is that having multiple streams of income has become the new normal for millions of households.

Let's examine the four questions you need to ask yourself:

  1. If you suddenly had extra income every month, what would you do first:
    A. Pay off debt
    B. Build an emergency fund
    C. Save for travel, college, or retirement
    D. Work fewer hours

  2. Which statement sounds most like you today?
    A. I worry when unexpected bills come up
    B. I feel like I'm earning enough-but just barely
    C. I want more freedom, not jsut more income
    D. I'm ready to build something bigger for my family's future

  3. How much additional monthly income would make a meaningful difference?
    A. $250-$500
    B. $500-$1,000
    C. $1,000-$3,000
    D. More thant $3,000

  4. What would having that extra income really give you?
    A. Less financial stress
    B. More flexibility
    C. More opportunities
    D. More freedom

Now that you have had a chance to determine your desires and needs, what should you look for in an extra income opportunity?

First of all, many side businesses are built around trading time for dollars.  If you drive more - you earn more.  If you deliver more - you earn more.  If you work another shift - you earn more.   Buit when you stop working, the income generally stops.  Doesn't it make sense to spend your limited time on to build a repeat income model that continues to pay you each month.  A business model that still requires consistent effort, but that effort continues to pay you month after month (even if you have to take a month off).

Second, you should choose a business that is not centered around products or services that are one and done. You can only use so many Tupperware containers or cookware sets.  You need to choose a product line that are everyday household essentials such  as cleaning products nutrition, beauty, personal care and more.  Things people use up and have to continually buy again, but superior quality at reasonable prices. You are not asking people to buy something extra, but just changing where they buy things.

Third, you need a program that can fit around a busy life.  Parents, teachers, health care workers, retirees and full-time employees often are not looking for another rigid schedule.  You need the flexibility to build an extra income that fits your schedule.  You already share with other people things you like recommending restaurants, movies, skin care products, or supplements to friends and  family.  Why not get paid for doing what you already do!

Fourth, you need something that is scalable to fit your needs.  Whether you need an extra $300 fo groceries or $2,000 for Child Care, the program you choose should be able to help you achieve that - month after month no matter what life throws at you.
