Tax Penalties

An Oregon man pleaded guilty to willfully failing to pay more than $24 million in payroll taxes owed to the IRS.

The Internal Revenue Service said that it is providing failure-to-pay penalty relief for roughly 4.7 million taxpayers who didn't receive automated collection reminder notices from the tax agency.

The IRS will soon implement a new process that automatically provides penalty relief for taxpayers with a history of filing returns and paying tax dues on time.  This new relief system is expected to be phased in this summer.
